During this ArtClass, each participant will paint their own portrait in a "glamour" style, on a real canvas with an easel, side by side, at a large table.

The duration of this ArtClass is  2,5 hours. We will start and finish promptly. We will provide some additional explanation on portraits. (For inspiration, also to see what others do.)

Following a brief introduction from me, we will immediately begin working.

You will learn in 2,5 hours  to paint your own portrait.

What do you need?

Please bring or have ready your best sharp, frontal photo (high quality, on your phone in advance. (Note: Ensure your phone is adequately charged, as we will be using it to draw your portrait.)

We will first sketch the portrait in gray pencil on paper (a warm-up exercise) before transferring it directly onto the canvas. You will be provided with a transparent apron, but please take care of your sleeves (rolling them up) to prevent any paint stains. Try to work as cleanly as possible.

While drawing and painting the face/portrait:

The focus will be on the eyes, lips, makeup, and hair. There are no right or wrong approaches during the drawing and painting process; everything is acceptable and encouraged.

After the ArtClass session, you will take your own portrait/canvas home with you!

 

Technique:

Painting with acrylics on canvas, with the option of adding gold or silver glitter upon request (Suzette will assist you with this). Acrylic paint dries quickly and can be easily painted over.

 

Educational:

You will learn sketching techniques and how to paint with acrylics on canvas. You will also learn to observe and capture your own unique facial features (as well as those of others). The more you practice, the more enjoyable it becomes. Above all, it's a lot of fun! I usually work to (good) music, which can enhance inspiration during the painting process.

 

Tips:

• Work neatly and carefully consider the colors you need for your portrait. • Don't wait too long to start the portrait; some people spend more time sketching than necessary (we only have 2.5 hours). • If you want to use a different color, be sure to thoroughly rinse your brush in water first. • Treat your brushes gently, like eggs; avoid pressing too hard while rinsing or painting. "You'll quickly learn how a brush moves during the ArtClass." • If the water becomes cloudy, replace it. • We use acrylic paint, which can usually be removed with water immediately, but it's better to prevent stains, of course.
